Polypropylene (PP) Elastic Ropes
Polypropylene Elastic Ropes (PP): the All-Rounder for Outdoor Use
Our polypropylene (PP) elastic rope is the most versatile outdoor option in the range. Its fibrous, high-denier 915D braided cover wraps around a UV-treated natural rubber core. Polypropylene has one decisive advantage outdoors: it dries quickly and barely absorbs water, which keeps moisture out and prevents the risk of rotting.
The advantages of polypropylene
| Criterion | PP performance |
|---|---|
| UV resistance | Good (UV-treated cover) |
| Chemical resistance | Good against everyday chemicals |
| Abrasion resistance | Good |
| Moisture | Dries fast, no rotting |
| Weight and price | Light and cost-effective |
PP, PE or PES: how to choose
PP is the best all-round choice for everyday tie-down jobs (tarpaulins, trailers, camping, nets). For heavy abrasive use, our PE 650 denier cover, tested to ISO 12947-2 (+4000 cycles), holds up longer (see our Sandow cords). For seawater and permanent outdoor exposure, our marine PES cover remains the benchmark.
Diameters and formats
From Ø4 mm to Ø12 mm, on 50 m or 100 m reels, or cut to length by the metre, in several colours. Ø6 mm for light-duty use, Ø8 mm for everyday jobs, Ø10 to 12 mm for heavy loads. Recommended range: 25 to 75% elongation.

Frequently asked questions
Does PP suffer in the sun? It's UV-treated and stands up well to sun exposure; for permanent marine use, our PES cover performs better.
Can it be cut to length by the metre? Yes, several products are sold by the linear metre.
PP or PE? PP for all-round versatility and price, PE for abrasion resistance.
Is it suitable for marine environments? For occasional use, yes; for permanent exposure to salt, choose PES instead.
Professional-quality PP bungee cords
Polypropylene elastic cords, often abbreviated to PP, are remarkable tools, combining resilience, elasticity and adaptability. Made from this particular plastic material, they are notable for their lightness and abrasion resistance.
One of the distinctive attributes of PP cords is their feel. Unlike other types of elastic cords, they have a fibrous, almost textile-like feel. This texture provides a comfortable and secure grip, preventing slippage and allowing for optimal use in a variety of situations.
In addition to their distinctive feel, PP elastic cords are highly resistant to UV rays and chemicals, making them particularly suitable for outdoor use. They do not degrade easily, even when exposed to extreme weather conditions or corrosive products.
Furthermore, as PP is less absorbent than other materials, these cords tend to dry quickly and do not rot, which is a considerable advantage, particularly in humid environments.
Polypropylene elastic cords offer a unique combination of durability, strength and tactile comfort. Whether for professional applications or everyday use, they are a wise choice for those seeking reliability and performance.
